Letter from My Future Self

My dearest,

I love you so much. I hope you feel it. I love you from here, right now. Who you’ve become. What you did. The people you love. Thank you for always being my inspiration.

Look where you are. First, I thought it was about money, position and praise. Then, I thought it was about contribution, giving back and community, now I know it was about growth. It is about growth.

First I thought, it was about getting it done…Maybe, I was wrong. It was going to get done sooner or later.

All those moments in the past, the actions I took, was about growth and what that required of me in order to fulfill it. It was about change and how to embrace it rather than run away from it…

My dearest,

Whatever you have done in the past and whatever you are to do is to convey meaning. Because of that, I know you will enjoy your moments to the point of madness…It’s what life is all about. It was about all those things you plan to do, but mostly it was about becoming a person I am right now. Look at your biggest strengths and the people and blessings around you. Wasn’t it all worth it? Wasn’t it worth it to be in the moment and enjoy it? Wasn’t it worth it to enjoy being you?

I can see you decided not to run from yourself. I see you embraced yourself fully. That is my biggest dream. I can tell you, you created your life your own way, but you had enormous help on the way. You are not even aware of that yet! Be ready to receive it.

I’ve learned patience along the way. Among all the wonderful things, there were some sad moments too. There was pain, but I learned to embrace it, to flow with it. And there was immense joy, moments you couldn’t have imagined would be so magical. All of that is waiting for you, so you can be grateful for those moments, but mostly grateful for where you are now. It will never be exactly the same. Enjoy the struggle and the “aha” moments and the laughter you share with those you love. Enjoy the mornings of rain and the cuddles of winter. Enjoy the moments of insight when reading a good book, pause to think about it, to reflect. Don’t just rush through life to get it done. It’s so sad when you rush through it, you lose it, it’s forever in the past, inexperienced. Don’t rush it. Whatever you do, do with love and there cannot be any mistakes that were not worth having. Do it out of love for yourself. Whatever you do, always celebrate along the way, celebrate the goals, even the smallest ones. Always remain hopeful, even if it’s so dark, you only see the very next step. Always take that next step, I will make sure to light your way.

You’ll learn courage is the ability to ask for help and have faith when there are tough moments. You’ll learn greatness is not to look away from the suffering of others. You’ll learn only things from the heart are the ones worth doing. Only memories created from the heart are the ones worth having. Always look through the eyes of your soul, that is your biggest strength.
